MasterCard International Sponsors National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

Sponsorship Builds on MasterCard’s Commitment to the Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography

Purchase, NY and Washington, D.C., June 05, 2006 - MasterCard International and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) announced today that MasterCard has become a corporate sponsor of NCMEC. Through its contribution of $100,000, MasterCard will help advance NCMEC's mission of finding missing children and preventing child sexual exploitation.

“Our sponsorship of NCMEC is an extension of our commitment to helping fight the exploitation of children and dissemination of child pornography on the Internet,” said Joshua Peirez, group executive, global public policy, MasterCard. “Supporting NCMEC is a responsibility that MasterCard takes very seriously and we are proud to contribute to their efforts.”

In March, MasterCard first demonstrated their corporate commitment to NCMEC when they joined the Financial Coalition Against Child Pornography (FCACP). The Coalition is a collaborative effort between NCMEC, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC) and 19 of the world's most prominent financial institutions and Internet industry leaders, to combat the disturbing trend of commercial child pornography on the Internet. According to NCMEC, child pornography is among the fastest growing Internet businesses.

“MasterCard has demonstrated a dedication to helping make children safer, and their decision to partner with NCMEC should be commended,” said Ernie Allen, President and CEO of NCMEC and ICMEC. “And their role in efforts within the payment industry to help eliminate the commercial viability of child pornography on the Internet fuels our battle against this growing trend.”

“The systems and processes MasterCard has specifically developed to combat the use of payment cards for illegal activities provide us with excellent tools and resources to help NCMEC eliminate what has sadly become a growing industry,” said John Brady, senior business leader, fraud management at MasterCard. “Through this corporate sponsorship and our ongoing involvement with the FCACP we hope to have a positive impact on NCMEC's work to eliminate the exploitation of children.”
